For 2 years in a row, the Ontario Social Development Council has determined that the Quinte area is the best place to live in Ontario. The Council combined 12 indicators to measure social, health, environmental and economic well being to produce a Quality of Life Index.

For recreation the Quinte region is home to 8 golf courses, sailing and boating of all kinds, world-class auto racing at Shannonville Motorsport Park, extraordinary cycling routes, harness racing at Quinte Exhibition and Raceway, Belleville Bulls Junior A hockey, countless walking and nature trails, and scuba diving.

Annual fishing derbies are held in season throughout the region as anglers vie for Walleye (Pickerel), Small and Largemouth Bass, Pike, and Trout. The Bay of Quinte has been designated The Walleye Capital of the World and is also said to have some of the best Bass in North America.

Canada's Tops!

Canada topped the UN Development Program Human Development Index for the sixth year in a row. Researchers with the agency examined income, education, life expectancy and health care in assessing the quality of life in 174 countries. Although ranked 13th in terms of per capita GDP, Canada surpassed every wealthier country in when measuring quality of life and human development.

Three of Ontario's best provincial parks are here in Bay of Quinte Country. Sandbanks Provincial Park, with miles of light sand beaches, is located 20 minutes drive south. Presqu'ile Provincial Park near Brighton is famous for its wetland reserve and 'Waterfowl Weekends' (more than 317 species of birds have been sighted in this park). Lake on the Mountain is Ontario's natural wonder. Defying all known geographical and geological theory, this lake is 62 metres above the Bay of Quinte with no visible water source.
